Volunteering of “being there”

We stand beside the suffering person
and to the whole family.

Volunteering in hospice and at home

Our volunteers are women and men of all ages who know how to enter the home of the sick person discreetly and establish an empathetic connection with the entire family unit. With equal humility, they donate their time as they cross the threshold of the hospice of the IRCCS Cà Granda Hospital Maggiore Policlinico Foundation in Milan, the hospice of the Don Gnocchi Foundation – Palazzolo Institute in Milan, and the hospice of the Garbagnate Milanese’s Hospital.

A helping relationship

Protecting the dignity and quality of life of the incurable patient means responding to complex needs, which relate to the health sphere, but also the need for relationship, solidarity, inclusion, and spiritual assistance.

The role of the Volunteer in Palliative Care is to respond to the need for relationships and to actively listen to the sick person in the evolutionary phase of incurable diseases, both in oncology and in non-oncology ones.

The person is in the center, surrounded by family: the Volunteer knows how to listen to history and fears, ready to accompany – with his presence – the trait of life that remains.

A family, five generations.
